Feeling vs being alone

There was some talk the other day at the end of class about when you are alone in a place that you feel happy and comfortable, do you feel alone. I thought about backpacking in through the woods. Every summer I go on multiple day backpacking trips and have done it alone multiple times. And being out in the woods in the Pennsylvania mountains, where there in no one around for miles upon miles, I don’t feel alone at all. I have grown up around nature my entire life. Since I was a kid my dad was teaching me how to catch a gut fish, how to hunt, how to camp properly, how to start fires, etc. Being outside in the woods is in my blood. So being out in the woods in the middle of nowhere is completely comfortable. I feel more alone when I am out in a public place by myself. In a crowd or in a city, I feel alone, because it’s unnatural to me. Excessively large amounts of people in a small area is foreign to me. I know that this isn’t the case for everyone though. My sister for example hates being by herself. But if she is alone in a mall or alone in a city, she says she doesn’t feel alone there. So, I know it differentiates between different people, but for me, if I am comfortable in a place and am happy, then very rarely do I actually feel alone.
