Stuck in Time-Sarita Madrid
I thought it was interesting that this reading said that Galatians 6:10 related to the movie Groundhog day. Depending on the translation, Galatians 6:10 reads "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." I think it relates in the way that we are supposed to treat all people with love and kindness which Phil did not really exhibit as he went through life miserably before he got stuck. I think that the second part that says "especially to those who belong to the family of believers" is not as relevant in this movie. I feel as though Phil was selfish and did not do good to others partly because he did not see the benefit of it for himself. In this scenario, "the flesh" and its desires come into the picture and think about only themselves. As the reading mentions Saint Paul says "And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in its own time we shall reap a harvest if we not give up." Personally I really like this quote and I like it as it pertains to this movie because Phil gets stuck doing the same thing over and over and his attitude affects the outcome. For example, in the beginning he does whatever he wants and does not enjoy his life but later he actually does good deeds and is happier. When he is doing good things with his repeated days, he learns that he must start over and do the same thing every day. He understands he may not always see the outcome of what he is doing but he is persistent with it. I think this is really beautiful as God tells us to be like children. This reminded me of what GK Chesterton says about children: "because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, 'Do it again'; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead." I think it is challenging to be like children and to wake up with the same perspective everyday of acting consistently kind towards others. This quote goes along with the movie because it is encouraging people to always do good to others with the same energy.

idios is an expression that means “in its own time” or “in due time,” which
means that things happen in seasons. After a long time of planting and watering
can you reap what you have sowed. Phil never experiences this season of harvest
because he does not plant good seeds. He is stuck on a repetitive cycle of life
due to how he chooses to live his life. Robert Jewett states it perfectly when
he says “To use Paul's language, they have devoted their energies ‘sowing to
the flesh’ and now they are ‘reaping the corruption’ of emptiness.”
