Ryan Lynch - Fathoming God
The theologian Anselm's ontological argument for the existence of God is considered by many to be the great argument against Atheism is that the fool who says there is no God, must first have a concept of God in order to deny his existence. Therefore someone who understands how God may exist, must be able to believe in God. Their views that God is not real is unstable due to this. Th difference is that a person can understand the meaning of something in their mind versus understanding something to exist.
People have many reasons to doubt God's existence, there are many things that make faith in God unrealistic, but people believe in spite of this. God and faith transcend human reasoning, using rationality humans are unable to fathom God, but faith does not exist in rationality it is above reason. A great quote from the first film we watched "Cold Fever" says that "only stupid people just believe in things they can see and touch." A profound statement that encapsulates the idea of faith. There is no proof other than your understanding of his existence, which considering Anselm's argument can be quite hard to deny.
