Kali Lynch - I really need to read more books.
These blogs have certainly convicted me about the amount of books I have read. If i'm being honest, the only book that I read consistently is the bible, so I think ill just keep blogging about that.
Ive started to go through the book of Luke. Im not really sure why. Maybe because I have never consistently read the book of Luke? When I go through my bible I see less things underlined and fewer notes in the margin in the book of Luke than the other 3 gospels.
In the first chapter, the book of Luke tells the story about the beginning of Jesus' life. It talks about the birth of John the Baptist and how Gabriel visits Elizabeth and tells her that she will bare a child, and tells the story of when God sent Gabriel to visit and tell Mary and Joseph about the baring of Jesus. I think this is one of the greatest examples and stories of obedience in the bible.
Mary, a virgin is so obedient and confident in God. She is a virgin, therefore she knows she will be looked down upon when people find out that she is going to have a child without being married first. What I find so interesting about this encounter with Gabriel and Mary is the fact that she did not try to fight it and she was barely phased, at least that his how the story goes. It says that Gabriel came down and said "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." It then says that Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what they might mean.
Mary was simply confused at what he said and what on earth he could possibly be talking about. It didn't say that she screamed or freaked out, she was just wondering what he could say. It then continues of to say that when Gabriel delivered the message to Mary, all she said was "I am the Lords servant." She was so obedient.
