Kali Lynch - The competitive business and rest cycle.
Now a day everyone is competing with their business it seems. This drives me absolutely nuts. We have become slaves to our schedules, turned out business into a competition, and forgotten about what it means to care for ourselves in the mix of it. I imagine I have multiple conversations a week with people about how many papers, how many tests, how many hours of work, how many everything under the sun they have to turn in and accomplish and excel at.
That is what we have chosen and let take over our human interactions with each other. Instead of the classic "good" when asked how are you, we have now trained ourselves and each other to come up with the long list of all the tasks we have to accomplish. Why is it like this? Why have we made business into a competition?
What happened to rest?
Rest is such a delicate word. To so many, that means laying in bed for hours on end watching Netflix. Does this count as rest? So far, we have turned business into a competition and twisted the meaning of the word rest.
The dictionary definition mean to cease movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength. Does watching countless hours on Netflix constitute as rest?
Is that refreshing yourself? Are we in a constant cycle of resting but then not actually resting so then we have to rest FROM our rest? Gosh. Im confused now.
All I know is that I refuse to compete with others in my amount of business and I refuse to skip out on real rest.
