Kali Lynch - Annihilation

First of all, I could not pronounce this movie when I heard this was the one we were watching, but that is okay. This movie was way out of my comfort zone and I would have never chosen it for myself! Im honestly kind of proud of the fact that I went, and I am glad that I did.

Annihilation was one of those movie that made me feel a bit weird while watching. Ya know that movie that makes you a little uncomfortable because of the way the characters look and act? Yeah, to me, this movie was that. Im not sure I love Natalie Portman but what can ya do. Her character made me really sad. She was so so so in love with her husband and then he got stuck in the shimmer and then sort of came back... but then he didnt. What I was mostly confused about was how long was he stuck in the shimmer and how long was she stuck in the shimmer? I suppose they gave us her time frame which I think was 2 weeks? I have a theory that her husband was in the shimmer for at least a year, since they couldn't find him for a year and they thought he was dead.

My theory explained:
When we meet Lena, we learn that her husband has been gone for a year. When we first meet her husband Kane, he comes into their house while she is painting the walls and seems skittish, like hes seen a ghost, or like he has PTSD. They sit down to talk and she tries to ask him about where he has been but he cant really talk and then gets driven off to the hospital. They get interupted and get taken to some compound and get interrogated instead, and then Lena learns that her husband is dying and then figures out why. My theory is that since Kane was inside of the shimmer for so long, that this duplicate of himself that came out of the shimmer was not just the second copy of him. I think the video recording gave that away, because he was talking to the duplicate and it blew up and he said he wasnt sure if it was Kane or not. I think with every duplicate that was made of him, he lost more and more of himself which leads me to believe that the Kane that came out of the shimmer was no where near the real him, and was the 7th or 8th copy that was made.

I think its obvious that Lena is the second copy when she comes out because she is much more responsive, knows her name and his name, and can recall most of what happened in the shimmer. Im still not convinced that the Lena that came out was not the real Lena. I want to believe that the Lena that came out was the real one, but at this point shes just suffering from trauma and memory loss and her mind is just playing tricks on her.

Was it the real Lena?

The Decalogue - 1 & 5

The Decalogue is a series of films about the Ten Commandments. Decalogues 1 & 5 are thought provoking and pull the strings of feelings that all humans share, regardless of religion, race, etc.  The first film in the Decalogue is about the the First Commandment; " I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt not have strange gods before Me".
