C.S. Lewis - Eros - Big Eyes (film)

The idea of eros as described by Lewis is that the pure essence of eros is that "the lover wants the Beloved herself, not the pleasure she can give" (94). In the film of Big Eyes eros love is depicted through the relationship between Walter Keane and Margaret. Although in their relationship the destructive force of eros love was exhibited. The charismatic nature of Walter's personality drew in Margaret's heart at the beginning of the film. This was where their eros love grew in a destructive way because they were idealizing each other and becoming more infatuated than in love. As the story continues Walter becomes envious of Margaret's artistic success with her saucer-eyed waif portraits. While selling some of her work at a bar he starts to take the credit and impersonates himself as the creator behind these portraits painted by his wife. Even though their marriage was tumultuous the eros love was the only thing keeping them together physically. But their relationship became broken as envy, greed and fear became apart of their relationship.
