Camille Gross: Annihilation 22 April

        Annihilation was my least favorite film we watched. The film appeared to be a rip off of Blade Runner and Stranger Things. The only bright side of the film was the fact that one of my favorite actresses, Jennifer Jason Leigh, was in the film. The CGI was cool but I care more about plot and dialogue. The dialogue was very boring and the interesting characters were killed off far too quickly. Another bright side was the all women cast but even then they make Natalie Portman super emotional throughout the film.
That being said, you can’t help but leave the theater feeling confused and questioning your own life. What happened to Lena? What happened to her husband, Dr. Ventress, and Josie? Josie died in a pretty peaceful manner, unlike the rest of the characters. She chose her death and she chose what she wanted to do which was neither fight or find out what is really going on. I still can’t figure out if that was the real Lena or her husband. Were there more out there? Dr. Ventress’s death at the end was the most intriguing part. Where did she go? Was she really human? Maybe she was a creature or alien that mimicked the original Dr. Ventress and just lured in the other women to gain control of them, as seen with Lena.

The "Prodigal Son Theme" in Movies In Luke 15: 11 - 32, Jesus shares the story of the Prodigal Son with His disciples. The story goes as follows: A father has two sons. The younger son asks for his inheritance and goes off and squanders it. After some time, he becomes poor and decides to return home to his father. He returns home with the intention of begging his father to be made one of his hired servants, expecting his relationship with his father is likely severed. The Decalogue - 1 & 5

The Decalogue is a series of films about the Ten Commandments. Decalogues 1 & 5 are thought provoking and pull the strings of feelings that all humans share, regardless of religion, race, etc.  The first film in the Decalogue is about the the First Commandment; " I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt not have strange gods before Me". The film focuses on a father and son, having a very close relationship. The father is a professor at a university, and places all of his trust within formulas, calculations, and anything that is backed by fact or reason.
