A Quiet Place Movie Response - A Father's Love
A Quiet Place
Movie Response
Last month some friends and I went to go see John Krasinski's new movie A Quiet Place. First of all, it was an incredible movie and if you haven't seen it then you absolutely should. The second thing that you should know, though, is that this movie will stress you out SO BAD. The setting of the film takes place after an Alien invasion, and focuses on the Abbott family and their struggle for survival. In order to survive, the family must remain as quiet as they can as the alien hunt on the basis of sound, The family has a leg up as they all know American Sign Language on account that Regan, the eldest daughter of the family, is deaf.
While watching the film, there was one Christian theme that really stuck out to me. The father, played by John Krasinski, did any and everything that he could to protect his family. At the beginning of the movie, Lee and his family are scavanging in an abandoned town looking for supplies when his little boy, Beau, finds a battery operated space shuttle toy. Because the toy would make a lot of sound, Lee takes the toy away from his son and tells him that he cannot have it. However, once Lee walks away, Regan grabs the shuttle and hands it to her little brother. As the family is walking through the woods to get home, Beau activates the space shuttle and is killed by an alien. Throughout the duration of the rest of the movie, Regan struggles with guilt for what she has done and believes that her father hates her and blames her for the death of her little brother. However, instead of nursing a grudge and denying Regan his love and protection, Lee does everything that he can to show her that he still loves her; for example, he works tirelessly on hearing aid prototypes to help her hear. At the end of the movie, however, Lee performs the ultimate act of love and sacrifices his own life for the life of Regan.
The relationship between Regan and he father reminds me of the relationship between man and God. Even though we mess up and make decisions that can have terrible repercussions, God still loves us and He proved that to us by sacrificing the life of His Son for our own lives!
